Dual degree programs in the country have been approved and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This information was given by UGC Chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar during an interaction with the media on Tuesday, 19 April.
Professor M Jagadesh Kumar informed that the dual degree and twin degree programs have been approved by the higher education regulator UGC. Under this, any university of the country can conduct dual degree programs under mutual agreement with the university of any other country. This will give double benefit to the students.
Prof Kumar told reporters that Institution of Eminence, recognized by NAAC i.e. National Assessment and Accreditation Council with a score of 3.01 and under NIRF i.e. National Institute Ranking Framework. Institutions ranked among the top 100 universities can start dual degree programmes.
To offer dual degree programmes, these institutions will have to enter into MoUs and MoUs with universities that have been ranked among the top 500 universities in the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education Rankings.
The UGC Chairman clarified that institutions that meet these criteria need not seek separate accreditation or approval. In addition, students must also obtain a 30 per cent credit score from a foreign university.
Apart from this, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar also clarified that these rules and approved programs will not apply to programs run by any ODL i.e. Open and Distance Learning University or Institute. This means that the dual degree program will not apply to courses taught through any online or distance learning mode.
