Adidas company History
Adolf "Eddie" Dassler began making his own sports
shoes in his mother's kitchen in Herzonaurach, Bavaria after returning from
World War I. In 1924, his brother Rudolf "Rudy" Dassler also joined
his business, which became Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik and flourished. The
pair started their venture in their mother's laundry, But at that time the
power supply in the city was not in reliable condition and these brothers
sometimes had to use pedal power from a stationary bicycle to power their
equipment.
At the 1936 Summer Olympics, Eddie Dassler traveled the world's first motorway to the Olympic Village. He also brought a suitcase full of spikes with him; he persuaded American sprinter Jesse Owens to use them, the first ever sponsorship by an African American.
