of Designing
During the
Second World War, the German army developed the concept of the assault rifle,
they observed that most of the encounters took place within a radius of 300
meters, whereas the rifles and cartridges available at that time had more power
for such a short range battle. There was That's why the army demanded this type
of rifle and cartridge, which also has the qualities of a submachine (large
magazine and has the facility of firing multiple turns) and works within a
range of 300 meters. This resulted in the introduction of the STG 44 rifle of
the German Army, although it was not the first rifle of its kind. The Italian
Army also had the Sei-Rigotti and the Soviet Army's Fedarov Avtamot rifles also
belonged to this category. But this rifle was used extensively by the German
Army, which gave them an opportunity to evaluate it. The Soviet army was also
influenced by the principles and philosophy of the German army and started
following them after World War II. Mikhail Kalashnikov began his career as a
weapon designer after being admitted to the hospital as a wounded patient. The
first carbine design he developed was rejected, but he participated in the
assault rifle design competition in 1945. His model was a gas base design with
30 bullets. It was codenamed AK1 and AK2.
