The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program is a rigorous course
of advanced and original coursework that prepares students for a lifetime of
field-defining scholarship, intellectual leadership and teaching in the fields
of Indian Philosophy, Western Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies. It aims
to prepare scholars and academics through constructive, critical engagement in
the complexity and diversity of the Indian philosophical tradition, and where
appropriate, in interaction with other intellectual traditions in their
plurality and diversity. Research areas broadly include Indian philosophy,
classical and folk arts, architecture and literature, history of ancient Indian
science, Indian politics and economy, and comparative studies.
The PhD program nurtures excellence in (1) research and writing, and (2) teaching. This program offers doctoral students the opportunity to develop expertise in their chosen discipline through the completion of a supervised research project.
