In a new chat, the Russo brothers reveal why they cast Chris Evans to play the villain in the upcoming release The Gray Man, according to ComicBook. Joe and Anthony Russo have worked with Evans in the past as he played Captain America in four of the MCU films that the brothers directed.

During the interview, the brothers shared how they cast Evans to play Lloyd Hansen in the film. "We didn't have to sell Chris on the role; Chris kind of sold us," Joe revealed. He mentioned how after portraying the character of Steve Rogers' righteous superhero, Evans wanted to dip his feet in unfamiliar waters. He noted that at the end of his run in the MCU the brothers asked Evans about his future plans as an actor, "He said, 'You know what? I'm pretty comfortable with my life and the work I've done. Kiya Hai Woh Mein' I am just interested in taking the risk to go ahead, and I just want to play challenging characters.' So it seemed clear to us that the right move here would be to offer Chris the sociopath and not the protagonist."

However, this will not be the first time the actor has played a villain in a script. In his 2019 film, Knives Out, Chris played the role of Ransom Drysdale, the bad guy in the film. Fans are once again excited to see Evans play the villain in the upcoming release. Anthony continued, "We knew we needed someone who knew how to disappear on some level," and it turns out Chris Evans is the man for the job.
