The matter of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) PG has once again reached the Supreme Court. In the petition, there has been a demand to postpone the NEET PG exam this time. A group of students has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking postponement of the NEET PG exam scheduled for March 12 for admission to post graduate medical courses.

 Claimed Many MBBS Graduate Students

The petition claimed that many MBBS graduate students would not be able to appear for the March 2022 NEET exam due to non-completion of the mandatory internship period. The petition, filed on Tuesday by six MBBS graduates through Dubey Law Chambers, sought a direction to the National Board of Examinations to postpone the scheduled examination till such time as the candidates complete the mandatory internship period prescribed in the PG Rules. Various requirements are not met.

Hundreds of MBBS Graduates will be Deprived of Examination

The petitioners contend that hundreds of MBBS graduates, whose internships were stalled due to their duty in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, would be debarred from appearing in the NEET PG 2022 examination for not completing the mandatory internship duty. Even though it's not their fault. Therefore, the petition seeks to postpone the examination.

PM Modi's Statement

The petitioners in their petition have also referred to the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 3 last year to postpone NEET PG 2021 for at least four months. It said that the services of final year MBBS trainee doctors would be utilized to handle the mild symptomatic COVID-19 patients.

Extend the Deadline for Completing the Internship

Simultaneously, the petition challenges the stipulation in the information bulletin of NEET PG, the deadline of May 31, 2022, for completion of internship. The petitioners have mentioned along with 1500 candidates that they were on COVID duty in the year 2021 and hence their internship was postponed. In the petition, there has been a demand to extend the deadline for completing internship from May 31 and then postpone the examination.
