In 2013, AAC began to focus its efforts on the production of suppressors. “We decided we were going to get out of the rifle-making business,” said Jeff Stills, assistant and director of silencers at Remington Outdoor Company. "We're going to focus all of our efforts on silencers and related accessories." In 2017, Kevin Brittingham founded a new company called "Q, LLC". Along with suppressors and a bolt-action rifle of its own design, Q has also developed and marketed an improved Honey Badger.

AAC Honey Badger Rifle Design

Both the rifle and cartridge used were developed in close collaboration with US Special Operations units to create a suitable and effective replacement for the HK MP5 and similar close quarters combat weapon systems. The rifle is designed to be very convenient for military use where M16s are issued and in common use, as many similarities would exist in fire control, weapon manipulation and magazines.

AAC founder Kevin Brittingham wanted to design a weapon that had the ease of use of the AR-15, but the portability of the MP5.

On October 6, 2020, the ATF sent a cease-and-desist letter to Q, stating that the Honey Badger pistol was a short-barreled rifle. Although Q tried to dispute this claim, they ceased production of the weapon and confirmed it in an official statement on the 14th. On 15 October, the ATF called for a ceasefire and extended its suspension for 60 days,
