Bachelor of Science in Horticulture Science is an undergraduate agricultural science and technology course. It is the industry and science of plant cultivation that involves the process of preparing soil for planting seeds, tubers or cuttings. During the course, students work and conduct research in the disciplines of plant propagation and cultivation, crop production, plant breeding and genetic engineering, plant biochemistry, and plant physiology. Work includes fruits, berries, nuts, vegetables, flowers, trees, shrubs and turf. Horticulturalists work to improve crop yield, quality, nutritional value and resistance to insects, diseases and environmental stressors. Horticulture usually refers to small-scale horticulture, while agriculture refers to the cultivation of crops on a large scale. The duration of the course is three years.
